I recently completed a piece that combines my hand-lettering and AI-generated illustrations to celebrate John 15:5. The verse states, "I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing." The biblical understanding of the vineyard as God's chosen people, winemaking as the journey to righteousness, and the call to "abide" or remain connected to the vine are central to my piece.
The illustrations depict a diverse group of people in a vineyard, culminating with a representation of Jesus, to celebrate the message of remaining connected to God and the promise of fruitfulness. The muted palette and attention to detail in the winemaking process pay homage to the tradition. By depicting a diversity of genders and races, the piece highlights the importance of embracing and utilizing differences to produce the fruit of righteousness.
The hand-lettering and illustrations spell the word "abide" and reflect our need to remain connected to the source of life.
