Trophy for the Development of Literary Arts
2009 Annual Cultural Awards South Africa
In 2009 my class won the bid to design the trophies for the annual Cultural Awards in South Africa. This trophy was designed for the category of the Development of Literary Arts.

The trophy consists of square rods (stainless steel) rising up from thebase (standardized dimensions; wood) which, when viewed from the top, spells READ. The motif behind the rods aims torepresent books on a shelf, side by sidecreating that which they had been created for: reading.

The rods furthermorerepresent the development of literature by shiftingto the side and then up again. Thismovement shows development as a process, instead ofprogression without struggle or thought.
