When design sparks from the idea that a person might be present only for a short moment, but there are still plenty of things that stay alive, a timeless and inspiring design brand is born that acts as an international ambassador for responsible Finnish design.
Where it all began
ByAatos, design field’s collective, creates timeless functional products with ethical and ecological values. The whole activity is based on encouraging and assisting the Finnish design tradition to move forward. ByAatos utilizes only domestic know-how in product design and manufacturing, from design to production. This ensures responsible operation, taking into account the entire life cycle of the product. While the collective was still in the start-up phase, they needed a visual identity and especially a brand image that supports their philosophy.
Creative idea
As well as the product life cycle, the design relies heavily on untamed, rugged Finnish nature and its unique shapes, tones and sensations. It takes the form of a visual image concept, where elements of nature and design create a timeless whole.
Execution
A person is involved passing, lingeringly. This idea of a person’s momentary presence, in contrary to the permanence of nature, the products of ByAatos and the collective, became the main theme of the execution. The design of the logo reflects the collective, as the single letters represent the designers as part of the community. ByAatos’ broken color scheme was inspired by the deep green coniferous forest, including a surprising accent color. This is how we created a timeless and inspiring brand for ByAatos, which reflects their design principles and helps the collective to grown into an international actor.
