DES 21 Drafting and Perspective | Winter Quarter 2023 | UC Davis
By Hannah Marie Price

Over the last four weeks we have developed an understanding of how to scale our drawings for accuracy. Additionally, we have integrated the use of symbols and markings to delienete  objects. For example, we use the circle symbol with two vertical lines and one horizontal line to convey an outlet. The loose pattern  below conveys the texture of the carpet. These concepts are key to 'reading' the drawings we are presented with.

This project helped me understand how to read and produce perspective drawings. I had to create several iterations before I got the proportions and scale right, but now I understand how to use my tools and see things proportionally. If I were to recreate this project, there are a few things I would change. For instance, I would get a proper case for carrying my work as the creases and folds give a less-than professional impression. Additionally, I would lightly sketch with pencil and finish it in fine inking to give a more polished look. Lastly, I would use color to give it vibrance and a sense of warmth, which is what I try to generate within my personal space.
