Happy Valentine's Day! <3
Description
I made a three-picture collage frame out of laser cut wood. I added roses made from ribbons and painted it lavender. The frame contains pictures of my mom and dad, where one picture seems like it is gesturing to the other two.
Process
Throughout the process of making the actual frame, I was making the ribbon roses. First, I had cut my ribbon into 3-4 cm long strands, and then I glued a strand on itself to make a petal/leaf, as seen below. I glued 7-8 red petals together, making a spiral shape, and then I twirled them onto each other to create a rose shape. I also added 2-3 leaves around the outside of each flower.
For the frame, I had made the SVG on Inkscape. I first cut it out on foam core and readjusted the back frame to be narrower.
Then I finally cut it on wood, but since the laser cutter didn't cut all the way through, I had to sand some areas down. I then glued the parts of the frame together, minus the backing, and painted it a soft lavender color. I added the photos and roses, and sealed the backing with hot glue.
Why I Made It
My dad would always celebrate Valentine's Day by surprising my mom with a bouquet of roses. Even though she knew they would be coming, she would always be so happy to see them come in, and my dad would always be so excited to order them "in secret" for her. My dad is no longer with us, and I wanted to do something for my mom in his memory. So I decided to gift her some roses that are just a bit more permanent to remind her of those happy moments with him!
