The Carriage House

“The Madrona is one of those rare places that invites in the extraordinary each day. Its unique history, natural beauty, and seclusion will beckon to discerning seekers far and wide.”

Those are the words, Jay Jeffers, who design this hotel in California used to describe the unique place the Madrona is. Madrona Manor is a Victorian-era Wine Country bed and breakfast inn near Healdsburg, in Sonoma County, California, United States, featuring a Michelin-starred restaurant.
I was contacted by Jay and his partner in business Cory Schisler, to create a panoramic for the lobby of the old carriage house, now turn into guest house. The brief was to create a panoramic that would link to the original purpose of the place, without being too detailed.
I chose to draw a somewhat abstract piece evoking the horses that once lived there.
I focus on simpler shapes because the goal was to laser cut the design into stained cowhide, connecting even more the design with the place and subject.
I also drew a pattern for the top part of the lobby, just after the flight of stairs that brings you to the bedrooms. For this part of the project I was inspired by the Navajo blanket that was sometimes used when horse riding in us.
thank you
