Masters of Art in Interdisciplinary Design Practice

The Brief

As part of a college project I was part of a team that was asked to pitch an identity for the new Masters in Interdisciplinary Design Practice at LSAD. Open to all graduates from design or cognate disciplines the MA is based around principles of learning through collaboration, deepening existing skills and acquiring new practical knowledge in enterprise and marketing. Our brief was to develop an overall identity for the course that visually ties in with the philosophy of the program.

The Solution

The logo and icon system we developed is based on an isometric grid to represent the new Masters program deepening already existing skills and bringing a new dimension to students work. The logo was produced to resemble an open box that is constantly changing and moving showing the various diverse skills students acquire in this program. The icon system represents various aspects of the course; for example, a cog to show collaboration and a speech bubble to stand for discussion.

The leaflets we created can be folded traditionally but at the back there are instructions on how to transform them into paper planes. The paper plane idea was born out of a need to advertise the course on a budget. When placed beside normal pamphlets these paper planes are quite striking and encourage people to engage with them. They also underline the creative nature of the new degree.

Thank you!
