In the desert South of Joshua Tree lies the failed riveira of Salton City. Once a bustling holiday destination for the great and the good of LA, it now sits mostly abandoned, rotting in the harsh desert sun.
The Salton Sea has receded leaving the beachfront properties stranded in the salt flats. Some people still eke out a living here. Not far from Salton City lies Salvation Mountain, a gloriously mad tribute to God and beyond that Slab City. A former US Army base that now is home to a fleet of RV's where a group of people have found home, off the grid. There is no electricity, running water or sewer system but there is a Church, a community centre and even an internet cafe.
