You Can Bank on Books Editorial Illustration

A commissioned editorial illustration for an article of the November issue of Cincinnati Magazine.

The article focused on several literary stories happening in the city in November. In particular, Books by the Banks was a book festival that featured authors and illustrators through signings, panel discussions, and activities.

The art direction was to illustrate a view of Cincinnati from the river with oversized literary elements throughout the scene. I also wanted to make it more identifiable to the city so I added familiar buildings such as the Great American Tower, Museum Center and the art museum. Some other details added was the flying pig as a big symbol in Cincinnati as they have statues of it all over the city, a graffiti artist representing all the beautiful murals they have and as well as taking a lot of inspiration from their old buildings.
Aside from that I just wanted to be playful with the other elements since when you read a book, it takes you to a world of fun adventures and new discoveries.
