The Brief:
Your brief is to design a poster to commemorate the anniversary of the film Le Mépris (Contempt) (Jean-Luc
Godard, 1963). Your poster should be A2 it can be either portrait or landscape. It should include some text
– it is up to you to choose what this is.Consider including the title of the film, a tagline, names of actors, director,
production blurb, something for the viewer to respond to (e.g. ‘Now out on blu-ray’, ‘Limited edition
25th/50th anniversary edition’, ‘Back in cinemas 2 February’)
The process:
I decided on a poster concept and that I wanted to produce a purely typographic poster for this projcet and
so began to consider the types of words I wanted to include in the poster and the most importand actors
and actresses to include as films during this period were very experimental. The actors were the most
important part of the movie not the narative or the filming itslf and so a typographic poster lends itself very
well to this notion.
