BArch YR02 / Performance Platform

Performance Platform / BArch YR02
Overview:
This brief concentrated on exploring sustainability on a social and cultural scale. The project consisted of two parts: a masterplan of a selected site as a group and choosing a building to develop individually. Landscape, community, sustainability and technology all needed to be considered in detail in relation to urban design. Focusing on sustainable design principles, a high level of strategic, constructional development needed to be presented too.

The chosen theme for our proposed masterplan was a relaxation and rehabilitation park. This was derived from the typology of the hospital facilities located north of the sloped site. We proposed unique buildings where people could gather, unwind and also learn. These included a multi-functional viewing platform, yoga centre, dance studio, library, cafe and allotment.

My individual project was the multi-functional viewing platform known as the Performance Platform. The focal point of my design was the picturesque views amplified by the design of our masterplan. I wanted to further the functions of a viewing platform, into multiple purposes for people of all ages. Therefore my proposal provided a viewing platform, outdoor stage for live performances, bird watching facilities and an information point about our newly designed park. My concept was driven from a bird’s nest and was evolved by Leonardo da Vinci’s sketch of a foetus. This new design connected nature with humans and submerged them into the environment. Locating my proposal at the top of our masterplan, enabled me to project my building using the terrain and provide enhanced views similar to a nest.
