Generative AI/ML-imaging, emerging now in the 2020s, is going to be at least as revolutionary to visual culture as the invention of photography was in the late 1800s. So it felt fitting to use these cutting-edge tools to create images in the style of the one of the very first photographic techniques, cyanotypes – merging early phases of two technologies with over 150 years of history between them.
Also visualizing a futuristic space-age story with a photographic style that preceded the age of rockets and space exploration by at least a century gives the whole thing another twist: we get to see things from (a possible) future in a visual style that for us speaks of the past.
