Auburn University's Samford Hall

William J. Samford Hall
Auburn University
William J. Samford Hall has stood as distinguished landmark of Auburn University since its completion in 1888... Named after Alabama Governor William J. Samford it was built as the "Main" building of Auburn's Campus after its predecessor "Old Main" burned in a fire.

Interesting Fact: It has been told that the clock tower is modeled after the very famous tower in London "Big Ben". The Samford tower dons the numeral "IIII" instead of the Roman Numeral "IV", and it is said that "Big Ben" does the same. When in fact Big Ben does not it bears the "IV". So where did this practice come from, did the original clock-workers miss that day in school when they learned the number 4.

A theory of this practice comes from a French clock-maker that made a clock for Louis the XIV. This clock was donned with the correct "IV", but Louis said that "IIII" was the correct term and insisted that it be changed, and thus the practice of using "IIII" was born and is commonly although not always used in making clocks to this day.

This poster is of the famous Samford Hall. It was made by combining 24 separate photos together. The best part about it, is that the photos were taken with an iPhone.... You better believe it
