Web Design: Tope Co-Op

Brief
In this brief we were required to develop the visual look and feel for a website for one of the clients from Brief 03. For the purposes of this brief, I selected Tope Co-Op, a gallery space said to be found at Dunkley Square in Cape Town. In designing a functional website, we were also required to maintain the visual language of our initial logos while also expanding the brand’s identity in a visual form through web design.

Concept
When considering the design of a website utilised by Tope Co-Op, I wanted to include the neon elements of the logo and create a “dark-mode” website that pays homage to 90s video games. To do this I made use of a neon display type and buttons created in the same style. I also was fond of the striking appearance of the eye in the logo as an isolated element so wanted to include it somewhere it can really stand out.
I was quite concerned about my ability to execute this brief for quite a long portion of actually attempting to do so. Regardless, despite feeling out of my depth, I learned the importance of sticking to your initial, more stable designs when attempting to extend their visual language. Similarly to previous briefs, I liked being able to interpret an instruction through applying my own style and abilities - even though I felt they were at times lacking. The challenge of including so much information into a design was certainly present but I felt I’d learned how to keep track of so many moving parts by the time I’d completed the project. I relished the opportunity to extend the visual language of one of my previous projects, being able to improve upon details I’d taken issue with.
