Hook-it / First Aid Kit

HOOK-IT
First aid kit for solo hiking
Project Type: Bachelor's degree Thesis

A project to reduce mountain rescue interventions, designed primarily for hikers traveling alone
This is a kit first aid that hooks externally on the backpack, through a fixing system that allows different configuration possibilities for the user. The kit is designed to be compact when closed and, when opened, reveal a large surface with the tools well organized inside. To expand the capacity it is possible to attach customizable modules to the kit. The kit is made with a strong and light fabric, which becomes biodegradable in contact with the ground, to leave no traces in nature during excursions.
THE PROBLEM
In recent years there has been an increase in cases of accidents in the mountains, which are reflected in an increase in Alpine rescue interventions
Rescuers find too much superficiality in people who face the mountain without physical nor technical preparation and without the right equipment.
THE CONCEPT
The idea is to create a first aid kit that can adapt to the needs of all hikers for shorter or longer journeys, different types of activities, or personal needs, using modules that can be attached to the basic kit to expand it.
The kit can be attached to the backpack to allow the user easy availability in case of need through a fastening system on the shoulder strap. The basic kit contains the minimum necessary to carry out first aid activities in order to have the least possible bulk and weight. The modules of the kit will allow the hiker to have a single kit capable of modifying and transforming itself, for the various types of activities they will have to face.
The basic kit has been designed to be as compact in size as possible.
For this reason, modules have been added that give the user the possibility to expand it, hooking more modules together, and thus avoiding having multiple kits of different sizes.
Carrying a first aid kit with you is not enough to carry out first aid activities, but you also need to have the knowledge and skills to be able to carry them out. For this reason, adding a piece of infographic on the kit can help to recognize the various tools, know what they are for, and how to use them.
Four different types of modules are available: three are empty to insert tools for specific needs, while there is a specific module for winter with already prepared tools inside.
The fastening system to the backpack is made up of two elements which are tightened, using screws, to lock it in the desired point. There are several configuration possibilities according to the personal pleasure of the user.
The kit is made of a biodegradable 75D Ripstop Polyester fabric;
The hooking system and the other plastic parts are made of semi-rigid SEBS-based TPE-S;
