The Twilight Zone: An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge

Watching The Twilight Zone as a child was terrifying. As an adult they are thought provoking and still a little terrifying. While watching an episode called "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", I was inspired to make a movie poster. This episode was completely different from previous Twilight Zone episodes I had watched. Rod Serling still introduces you, but the rest of the episode has no dialogue. You can hear bugs and military men shouting, but you get meaning from the visual representation of the film.
I don't want to spoil too much, but insects are a common motif, as well as imagery and sounds that make the viewer almost hyper aware of time. So this, coupled with the show being in black and white, led me to use them as motifs in the poster. The Twilight Zone, and this particular episode remind me of Salvador Dali, so I was also hoping to emulate a little of that feel as well.
So for my rough sketch, I have made the landscape deep and expansive and the watch larger than it should be. It takes up the most space in the hierarchy due to the urgency of time in the episode. The stars in the sky are there to reference the Twilight Zone, because in all Twilight Zone episodes, the viewer has been taken into the Twilight Zone and that's why these bizarre things happen.
For the final piece, I have added a gradient to the background leading up to the foreground, and brightened some of the stars to add depth. There are harsh shadows and highlights around the subjects. I also added a texture to the ground and of course the title, "The Twilight Zone."
