Howrah Station - the oldest and largest in India

Howrah Station is the oldest and the largest railway station in India. It is the most complex station in India as well. The initial planning was done by George Turnbull. He is the prime engineer of the East India Railway Company which happened on 17th June 1851. 1852 the government made it clear that land would be purchased for the construction of the station. A new station building was erected then 1901. This new station was designed and constructed by the british architect Halsey Ricardo. The station came under service on 1st December 1905. This is the present building of Howrah Station now. Initially the station had fifteen platform tracks. An expansion of the station happened in the 1980s and 8 platform tracks were added. Every day more than 600 trains are running through total 23 platforms. Millions of passengers are coming from all parts of India and it is very busy all day.
