Design Research - Tool Sharing

Brief:

Collaborative consumption is a powerful force changing the way we live our lives today. It is not just changing what we consume, but how we consume. For this project you and a teammate will be tasked with performing primary and secondary research to understand the opportunities the creation of a product, service or experience that could easily compete in today’s sharing economy.

Teams will focus on one of three topic areas for your program:

1. Redistribution Markets
2. Collaborative Lifestyles
3. Product Services Systems

The key objective of your first assignment is to learn how to develop empathy with users while at the same time learning how to gather information that will help you develop insights, opportunities and ideas grounded in the human experience.

Secondary objectives are to understand the dynamics of people and products in an environment, practice open-ended conversations, learn to document your learnings, create useful data and practice compelling storytelling.

Goals of This Project:

Develop empathy for and understanding of people’s uses of the Sharing Economy in their lives
Recognize the human dynamics in an environment
Discover compelling stories
Reflect on your experience: What did it feel like?
Reflect on your own empathy challenges. What are your own hindrances?
Understand how to collect and synthesize to create true insight
Develop and understand of how to move research findings into design opportunities
