Α former industrial building from the 60’s was the subject for this student project by Abadiotakis Petros and Giannakopoulou Nikoleta.
The main design strategy was to preserve the original structure and architectural elements from the modern movement, while adding some building parts according to the new uses.
The two autriums that are created in the center of the building, bring nature and light on the inside,  better living conditions.
This project aimed on the one hand to preserve elements of the existing structure  – a former industrial building in the 1960s – and on the other hand to partially differentiate the volumes of the new uses.
Thus, we create a recess for the entrance, as in the added extension with their common feature the public character in the functions. Internally we create two atriums, with the main goal to bring nature inside the building. The rooms are developed in the middle levels, as they communicate with the planting that develops between the vertical support and the exposed concrete beams.
The structural elements remain the same to respect the architecture of the building, with the industrial use during the period of the modern movement.
The facades were based on the principles of the modern movement with the large windows which we modify and add to give the function we want in today’s era. More specifically, externally we use colored plaster in correspondence with the interior to harmonize the materials.
The materials we use are mainly mortars and wood that try together with the atrium to bring a natural feeling. More specifically, we use mortars, to give a uniform style that will contrast with the veneer linings that follow a specific grid.

Of the two added extensions created due to the needs of the project, one was assimilated into the existing structure due to use, and the other differentiated the material to harmonize existing with new modern materials.
