Kontabas is an ancient Ukrainian beverage
imbued with the national spirit and deep history
The French have cognac. The Scots have whiskey.
Ukrainians now have kontabas.
We had to create a logo and label design for a beverage almost completely lost in history. In fact, we had to convey its unique Ukrainian character through the label — its faithful belonging to lost Ukrainian traditions.
To develop an authentic visual image with a Ukrainian character, we researched the characteristics of Ukrainian handwriting of the XVI. century. We created many handwritten calligraphic sketches following the proportions and tools akin to that era. The result is a form of Ukrainian calligraphy with cursive elements.
