Design Goals

Calvin Get Down was an Instrumental Funk Band, similar to The JB’s (James Brown’s old rhythm section). The band needed logo designs, concert posters, and promo photos. I conceptualized the designs for a graphic artist and digitized all designs with Adobe Photoshop. The project started with sketches of Calvin’s head and body, which were eventually scanned into Photoshop and colorized into the final product. The lettering followed a similar process until we ended up with the “Booty Shakin’ Live Funk” Logo. Additionally, Calvin Get Down needed a business card, so we took the Calvin character and made a card that had part of Calvins body on one side and the rest on the other so it seemed seamless as you flipped the card back and forth. We went with a funky green color because…. funk. In addition to graphic design, I was also the guitarist for Calvin Get Down for two years while the band played in major breweries around Western North Carolina including Oscar Blues Brewery, Foggy Mountain Brew Pub and many more.
