Lizzy around the world

This is my Lizzy
Of course she's my favourite model!
We love to travel. My Kiwi Lizzy has family in New Zealand, so we go visiting down under every year. We also get away here in Canada: Quebec and Ottawa for our grandchildren; other beautiful places like Lake O'Hara, Tofino, Kananaskis, the Kootenay's, the Okanagan; and backroad locations like Writing-on-Stone, Wells Gray, and Grasslands National Park. Recently we've been to Hawaii and Barbados to get some sun.
Here Lizzy gets her hair and makeup done for a photo shoot at Mink Photography in Auckland, New Zealand. The session was a gift from Cat, Lizzy's daughter. Lester's shots were pretty good, too!
A glass of wine following our photo shoot - and time for some candid environmental portraiture with Lester's grip. I'm a location shooter - so my lighting is based on Nikon speedlights.
With the sun setting just 15 minutes after the moon rise, and a high tide, I couldn't resist the opportunity for some photography. I overheated an SB-900 zoomed all the way out with my zoom lens at 300 mm - I didn't want to get wet and cold! We're at Waihi Beach on the Coromandel, North Island, New Zealand.
Another take during the full moon rise swim at Waihi Beach on the Coromandel, North Island, New Zealand. I love impressionistic photography - here the rear curtain sync flash freezes a moment while the picture relates motion and fun.
This was first thing in the morning at Solscape Eco Retreat, off Manu Bay, outside Raglan, on the North Island, New Zealand. A friend is holding a Lastolite TriGrip with a gold strip reflector to keep the fill warm. Doesn't the back-light through her hair look beautiful?
This was a quick one-off at brother John and Wendy's batch at Whakapirau on the Kaipara Harbour, North Island, New Zealand. Natural back-light from the setting sun and a glass of white wine.
Here's my patient model letting me play with an SB-900 controlled by an SU-800. Last time I travel without a proper light stand. It's worth a trip to the Big Island, Hawaii, just to go shopping at Jams World!
Here's an alternate shot of my girl in her favourite Jams World dress at a house we rented in Paradise Park outside Hilo on the Big Island, Hawaii. Natural light - I love the silver hair (which goes wild in the humidity we are not used to).
The back-light off the day yacht was HOT but I managed to use fill flash to get something. Look at that bicep! Swimming with the turtles off Holetown, parish of Saint James, Barbados. Lizzy stuck her hand up at a charity auction, down went the gavel before a second thought, and we were away for a week to Mango Bay Resort. We had fun anyway hitting up local cafes and renting a rusty, clunky, leaky mini-moke.
Nice soft light shooting an SB-900 into a Lastolite softbox, limiting the depth-of-field to throw the background out of focus. Caught a few highlights off the shiny CD jewel cases which I tried to diminish in Lightroom.
I had hot noon sun blasting through the closed curtains so I used an SB-900 into an umbrella for fill. Then de-saturated the curtains to even out the back-light.
Another shot of Lizzy on the seaside volcanic ledge at the house outside Hilo, Hawaii. Natural light, blue ocean, long lens, and a light breeze puffing up the gorgeous Jams World dress.
A more pensive look while at lunch with Jamie and Grace in New Zealand. A light breeze blowing the hair line around.
We were out on a day cruise of the Bay and stopped for a swim. The water was lovely, too... Bay Of Islands, New Zealand.

I wasn't sure about this one until I started playing with it in Lightroom. It wasn't what I originally expected, but now I think it looks kind of cool! Another shot of Lizzy getting ready at Mink Photography in Auckland, New Zealand.
My patient model appeasing me while I play with my version of a 'beauty light' - a Lastolite 60 cm softbox up high with a 22 cm softbox down low. Not bad lighting actually...

Lizzy around the world

These are just some of my favorite shots of my wife, Lizzy, who says she never used to like photographs of herself.
