About
The ,,Cule în Lumină” project is dedicated to the knowledge and appreciation of some of the most valuable constructions of Oltenia, which have defended and cultivated for hundreds of years the lifestyle and customs of this region full of history.
Within the project, we documented and conducted measurement surveys at the I.C. Săvoiu kula, as well as the proposal for its restoration and the inclusion of the landmark in a larger tourist route, in order to draw attention to the uniqueness of the construction, being one of the last kulas with a preserved wood structure.
The building is made of wood, with two levels and a tiled roof. The ground floor has a cellar and a staircase that connects to the first floor. The floor consists of two rooms and a porch. The wooden beams in the porch are almost identical to those of the nearby wooden church, which led to the dating of the kula in the third decade of the nineteenth century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the porch was closed with windows, two new windows were opened on the ground floor level and the building was plastered.
