An electrical project to help bring Albert Bierstadt's painting 'Among the Sierra Nevada Mountains' by adding lights to the backdrop of a canvas painting. His paintings inspired early Americans to move out west to the Sierra Nevada Mountains; his use of lights illuminating the mountain faces makes the landscape larger than life.
I created a simple prototype board to control two 24v strip lights with an Arduino controller. I wanted to individually dim and brighten a cool and warm color channel to give the illusion of motion of light. I then mounted LED strips to a piece of poster board that was fastened to the backside of the canvas. This gave the illusion of light due to the canvas being slightly transparent.
