"Naksitrallid"

Written by Eno Raud
Translated by Leo Vaino
Eno Raud's Tetralogy "Naksitrallid" is one of my favorite childhood stories. That's why I chose it for my diploma. I illustrated and made up the first part.
Eno Raud was an ardent environment activist for the and ecology, so I wanted to combine illustrations with a herbarium and a certain lively texture of fax paper.
I developed a palette of eight colors for my illustrations. Basically, I worked with solid fills, sometimes a more subtle linear study appears in the clothes of characters, objects or plants. I drew faces, hands and feet of the characters with a pencil. Compositions of the illustrations are distant, medium and close-ups. Just in close-ups, and these are portraits of characters, I decided to add a herbarium: flowers and leaves. The herbarium enriched and put an end to the decoration of the book.
The layout of the book includes footnotes that are not in the original. They give an analysis of possibly new words or interesting facts for children.
