Dr. Mark Vucak: Townsville Top-Rated Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Mark Vucak is a plastic surgeon based in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. He lives with his lovely family consisting of his beautiful wife and two daughters. When he was an undergraduate, he became a a canoeing champion in Western Australia and a skilled chess player, both hobbies that he still enjoys today.
Dr Vucak is a current member of the International Society of Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) and attends regular conferences hosted by the ISAPS which enable continuing education and professional development for plastic surgeons. Dr. Mark Vucak was born in Kuwait to an airplane engineer father and a flight attendant mother. The nature of his parent’s profession allowed him extensive traveling opportunities in his childhood years. He was raised in Perth where he went through his basic and tertiary education. He then enrolled at the University of Western Australia and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Bachelor’s degree in Surgery.
Following this, Mark obtained a postgraduate Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), an Australian Medical Council accredited institution. He then underwent a postgraduate Fellowship in Plastic Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta GA, USA, where he received training from some of the world’s best plastic surgeons.
After his post-graduate education he worked as a surgical consultant at several clinics across Australia. He worked at the Royal Perth Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, both located in Perth. He also worked at the Freemantle Hospital in Freemantle, the Royal Hobart Hospital and The Repatriation Hospital Hobart, and then the Townsville University Hospital and Mater Private Hospital in Townsville. He eventually settled in Townsville where he began to branch out into private plastic surgery.
In 1994 he became Townsville’s first plastic surgeon to establish a private clinic, which he called Queensland Plastic Surgery. This clinic has since expanded to include offices in Mackay, Cairns, and Rockhampton. Including the other experienced plastic surgeons in the clinic, QPS has treated over seventy thousand patients across Queensland.
Expanding the scope of QPS, Dr Vucak also opened Chrysalis Medispa. This allows him to offer both surgical and non-surgical skincare options.
Dr. Mark Vucak’s experience in the field has made him a role model for other young plastic surgeons. He sees sharing his experience and knowledge with younger professionals as integral to the continuation of the plastic surgery field.
He has taught students at James Cook University and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. He enjoys being a plastic surgeon because of the diversity of operations, working on any part of the body, and being able to witness positive changes in the lives of his patients after their surgeries. For instance, he performs reconstructive surgeries after patients have been in accidents, sometimes involving taking tissues from healthy body parts and repurposing them into injured areas.
