Philadelphia Eagles Energized Flight

With the announcement of the new Philadelphia Eagles wordmark this summer (post here), it inspired me to think of other ways this iconic franchise could evolve into the future. Taking a look back through their history of the Silver Wings, Gang Green, and the "Philly Special" to help tell their full story. Using a lens of how uniforms and technology are evolving, and how sports franchise brands live in the future. This new look features an energized color palette that includes their current Midnight green, the historic Kelly green, and introducing a cool gray that ties it all together. Updating the eagle logo, and evolving the helmet wing captures the speed and spirit of this new brand.

This project is entirely conceptual. I hope you enjoy!

Inspiration

Kelly Green – Background
The Philadelphia Eagles have donned the color Green since their inception in 1933 all the way through the era of the 'Gang Green' defense led by Hall-of-Famer Reggie White. They stopped wearing the iconic color combo in 1996, rumor speculates the new owner's wife disliked the colors. Not only is the Kelly Green special, the original silver wings and silver pants beautifully tell the full story. The late 90's/early 00's were famous for introducing black into the NFL team's color palette (Panthers, Jaguars, Eagles, Falcons, Lions, and Ravens. In this concept, we've imagined taking today's Midnight green and marrying it with the beloved Kelly green, creating an energized color scheme that tells their full story.

Silver Wings – Energized
The Origin story from (Todd Radom – On the Wings of Eagles): "In 1998 (Jim Trimble, offensive line coach) told The Philadelphia Inquirer “we had just played against the Rams and lost. I was really teed off about the loss, but I really liked the Rams’ helmets with the horns. At the time they were the only ones with something like that. When I saw the Rawlings (sporting goods) salesman Kenny Baldwin, I asked him why the Rams had that special privilege, and could he come up with something for us?” General manager Vince McNally eventually signed off on the design and the Eagles have sported wings ever since." –– The new helmet features an updated wing that feels faster, sharper, and more connected to the new Eagle logo

Numerals – Modernized
The thick-shadowed serif has become quite the classic, featuring quirky numerals and low contrast spacing. The custom oblique numeral set, inspired by the new wordmark unveiled this summer, helps capture the energy and speed of the new brand.
