„Matala“ is a song by Mario Rom’s Interzone featured on the album „Eternal Fiction“. Symbolising the increasing anxiety we felt over all the worlds crises of the past years. The video tells the story of an evil entity embodied in a human vessel. The entity stubbornly follows a path that ultimately leads to chaos and destruction. It doesn’t care what’s left or right. And even after remorse: The cycle starts again and again. – It raises the question: Will humankind ever change our planet and our lifes for the better? Or is it an andless vicous circle we are trapped in?

Making of Matala: Character Development
This is the final character sheet presented to the band. It defined the characters look and possible facial expressions for the video. Early stages of the development featured walk-cycle tests and layout-animations for a storyboard.
Despot characters
The band had the idea of the main character transforming into political leaders during the climax of the song. Symbolizing being in powerful positions but deliberately choosing to be selfish and greedy instead of having the opportunity of doing good. Some of them are gone by now, but some of them did even worse.
