The Carpet Design Awards at DOMOTEX, Hannover has set new global standards for hand-made carpets and rugs.The entries are judged against a range of criteria, including design, quality of materials, product features and innovation.
A total of 329 entries from designers from across the world entered the competition for the highly esteemed awards. 33 carpets reached the final round. Out of which 11 most impressive designs were declared winners.
The pleasure of having my design hand spun and hand woven in Afghanistan; which has a rich history in carpet and is believed to inhabit the most highly skilled weavers of the world was a tremendously lucrative incentive for me.
The rug is kept as part of my collection to be shared and taken forward for further design explorations with different weaving communities. I see this rug as a medium to connect with skilled artisans, weavers and designers across the world.
I owe my gratitude to the skilled weavers of Afghanistan who have hand-spun and hand woven the final winning piece.
