Human Trafficking Awareness
by Cassie Gebhart
Artist Statement:
My three collages represent how little human trafficking is discussed. I wanted to bring awareness to a topic that still haunts many to the present day. It is a topic that angers me and makes me wish that I could do more to help bring victims justice and help the countless others that I am sure are still unfortunately out there. While I could never be able to understand the feelings of these victims, nor would I ever pretend that I do, I did not want to shy away from doing my due diligence to try to represent their feelings and everything that they must have endured. I wanted to represent the fears and the very true reality that is human trafficking and what can happen if we do not work harder and more diligently to bring the victims justice and put the perpetrators where they belong, which is behind bars. The victims, survivors, and those who are still being silenced, need us to be their voices.
