Herr Bartels is a bar which specializes in tasty and enchanting cocktails, they stray from the pretentious environment which cocktails are usually served in and instead you are welcomed in a bar with a raw Berlin feel, dark with distressed metal chairs, rock music and long bearded bartenders.

 

They approached me and wanted me to develop some artwork for each of their new menu cards. The cocktail menu – The Classical menu – Wednesday / Thursday menu – Beer and spirits menu. They wanted the illustrations / collages to differentiate from card to card so the bartenders easily can tell them apart.

 

The inspiration came from a quirky Monty Python world filled with bizarre combinations. And with elements which originate from the word cocktail but without being obvious. Ex. the word cocktail comes from the garnish, which looks like a tail from a rooster. So therefore I have used a picture of a rusty saw, used for sawing the rooster’s tail of.

I also created a poster for the entrance to set the tone of the mood inside.
