KTIMA PAVLIDIS Experience

EXPERIENCE

Ktima Pavlidis is located in Kokkinogia, in the northwest part of Drama prefecture, about 19 kilometers from the city of Drama. It was founded in 1998 by Christoforos Pavlidis, who after a persistent search has chosen this particular area to install the vineyards and the winery. Ktima Pavlidis’ privately-owned vineyards are situated in the region of Kokkinogia and of Perichora. Both sites are well known for their vineyards since antiquity. This northern region is one of the richest in natural diversity in Greece

The Balios Syrah and Eosa Chardonnay line are inspired by the intangible sensations, the sounds and ambiences that saturate the Ktima Pavlidis wine fields and all the manufactory processes, from grape growth to bottle opening.

Having defined the most important stages of production and broken them down into eight sections, we developed a layout that combines ideas of Swiss style, brutalism in contrasts and shapes, and the difference between the strength of the soundscape vibrations of each process.

AMBIENCE

Known ways of visualising sound waves were explored.

I looked at MilkDrop, the Winamp sound visualiser from the early 2000's, the pulsar PSR B1919+21 (better known as the 'Unknown Pleasures' album cover), the direction and strength of the wind in the vineyard region, and the calligraphic "abrupt, crisp" movements. Abstract representations of dynamic lines were created through artbreeder, engaging synonymous wine\colour\bionic nodes.

It is also worth noting the structure of the wine trellis - which when analyzed in detail repeats the structure of the packaging layout. It remains to teach the trellises to be audioreactive in real life.

The neon overlays on the cork represent an analogy for the night-time illumination of the scenery surrounding the wine: the yellow sparkles on Balios Syrah and the blue starry sky - a feature of Ktima Pavlidis, the grapes are harvested at night.

To determine the visual style of the animation clip the reviews of existing red and white wines of Ktima Pavlidis were analysed and as a result important attributes were found which are incorporated in both the visual and the soundtrack of the clip: GRAINY / INKY / DARK / CRISPY / RICH.

As a result, the new line combines nature and technology in a medium of sound that can tell the customer a lot about the path and history of the product they're holding in their hands. A wealth of experience is both the virtue of the company and something it wants to move into the future with, and these wines can definitely link production and consumer along a unique intangible path.
