It is aimed at raising public awareness about the plight of lions on World Lion Day. Due to poaching and hunting, lions now number just below 50,000 worldwide, compared to large populations 100 years ago. Thus, World Lion Day raises funds and intensifies conservation efforts for this endangered species.
