Identity

Barnestemmen is a specialist company with a vision to bring out the children's voice in society. They develop educational support tools to use when working with children in difficult life situations, such as violence, sexual abuse, alcoholism and other traumatizing experiences. The tools are practical manicured, and has a solid research-based foundation.

Sølvi Schei is the founder and initiator. She is an educationalist (Can. paed.) specializing in educational psychology.
Ghost was commissioned to develop the visual identity, web, books and packaging. With a limited budget, a large dose of humility and a fantastic illustrator (Anders Emil Sommerfeldt), we started the process. This engaged us, both professionally and emotionally. The books will engage children and at the same time be a useful tool for adults. It was important to find a balance between the academic part and the "childish" part of it. This was solved by few, but clear design elements, colors and illustrations that appeal to childrens curiosity. Children can relate to the situations illustrated even if they do or don´t have "a painful secret". The series should not be perceived as a traditional children's book. It should be treated as a professional support tool for educators. Because of that, it was important that packaging, size and design generally took this into account. Easily placed on the shelf, the books are easy to locate and use of color makes it easy to choose theme and subject.
