Typeface Poster: Granjon

This is a poster meant to display the appearance and the history of the Granjon typeface, developed by George W. Jones for the Linotype company in 1928. Jones based the typeface on the Robert Garamond-designed roman type in a 1592 French book. In order to distinguish it from other types that were named Garamond, Jones named his type after Claude Granjon, who contributed the italic type of the book.
For my poster concept, I was inspired by the fashions of the 1920s, the decade in which the typeface was created. The daintiness and serif design of the letters made me think of jewelry, and one of the most iconic jewelry items of the 1920s was the long pearl necklace. In the poster a string of white pearls appears to loop across a black velvet background, with the name "Granjon" set in small caps on the pearls. The necklace is surrounded by other information about the typeface, set in white in a small font so as to resemble gems placed on the jeweler's velvet.
