.WHY
Being named 'Head of Light' for the first time in your life is somewhat awesome, isn't it?
Profile intermedia was an international conference for a wide range of trends and movements from all areas of design, art and media.
For the last two events (No. 8 + 9) I was the leading lighting designer as well as part of the main-team, which was responsible for the exhibition concept.
This included the conception of individual rooms (workshops and artists), stages, as well as the construction of light instalments.
CULTURE CLASH
The international conference was known for its inspiring crossover of design, art, architecture, film, video, photography, digital media, audio art, visual effects, music, fashion, performance and culture. It thrived for the unknown. The Profile – as everyone just called it – has always explored spaces in and around the worldwide dispersion of acoustic, visual and constructed languages in design, art and communication.
Hence, the title of profile intermedia No. 9: THE TOWER OF BABEL.
At this Profile, I wasn’t only 'Head of Light' with a bigger team and far less red gels then last year's profile (if you're curious, you can read about it HERE) but also took a bigger role inside the main-team, which was the hub for planning the whole Exhibition. Accordingly to my role in lighting, I was involved mainly in everything that had to do with the construction. Since a lot of the things needed, like seating, many tables, or room dividers, we had to build ourselves, to keep the costs at bay.
Unfortunately, the conference ended after that there wasn’t a 10th any more.
Inspiration & the exchange of ideas was her declared goal. It was both a place for the little artists, as well as for the big Who’s Who of each scene. At the same time, it was always a huge experiment, never quite predictable what would happen. So everyone would find their place here, that was the speciality of profile intermedia and their head Prof. Peter Rea.
