New Year's Arduino Countdown Clock

Industrial Design
For the 2013 holidays, Cossette Québec wanted to get it's clients excited about the New Year. Wanting to demonstrate how innovation is part of our daily work, we had to think outside the box. So we actually thought, of a box. A stained laser cut plywood box topped with a bright red 3D printed lid.

But since it's what's inside that counts, we put most of our thinking in there. We imagined a very special clock, that would switch to a countdown mode on December 1st. Days, hours, minutes and seconds before midnight on December 31 were displayed, each state more cheerful than the previous thanks to animated pixel stars and fireworks. After a very hypnotic 10 to 0 final countdown, the screen displayed a "Happy New Year!" message all day long on January 1st. On january 2nd? Back to normal time display... until the next holiday.
