WAYOUT

Project by The Jack Stupid
WAYOUT

We are nothing but flies on the window, thumping the clear glass to pass. too busy to see the answer right there, the other shutter ain't shut.

CONCEPT
After being inspired by seeing dead flies in agony on a fly catcher stripe hung upon the dining table i dreamt of a huge metallic fly mummified in the same sticky stripe. Alive animals would stick to it to fully cover the mummy.

ADD MATH
In the same period i was writing the lyrics for a song of my band, Destrage, only after the music was recorded.
Due to the weird mathematical structure of the piece i decided to go for an experiment to build lyrics and vocal melody.
I randomly chose 144 words/short sentences from the Destrage previous cd urban being and i assigned a crescent number to each of them, from 1 to 144.
My brother, mathematician,  built a function to re-order those numbers randomly.

The result of the function was a vector with all my numbers in a randomized sequence (22, 3, 44, 1, 6…) that i used to generate the lyric.
No number was repeated.
The band's singer improvised the vocals reading this nonsense stream on the music.

i also used the same sequence of numbers to generate a keyboard solo, making a 12x12 table in which every number was turned into a note:
1=C, 2=sharpC, 3=D… up to 12, then 13 went into C again.
amazingly the sequence of notes made no sense in therms of melody, but made sense in therms of physics: most of the intervals between adjacent notes were 7 semitones, (a fifth interval) the strongest relationship in nature, and they were moving chromatically ascending and descending.

The graphical representation of the function gave this result.
It reminded pretty much of a fly to me.
