RSA COMPETITION // THE WHOLE PACKAGE

BIG IDEA:
My big idea in response to the RSA brief proposed, is to redesign album packaging as I felt it is thoughtlessly packaged, wasting materials, money & resources. I have devised a new form of packaging that consists of just paper and can all fit on one single A2 sheet. This new style makes use of a folding technique called 'x-forms spans'. This new design is much more visually intriguing and exciting for the user to use.

I have devised a new form of packaging that consists of just paper and can all fit on one single A2 sheet. This new style makes use of a folding technique called 'x-forms spans'. This new design is much more visually intriguing and exciting for the user to use.
It is a large graphic poster of the album artwork - that I have re-designed of a chosen artist for this brief - on one side and the booklet contents on the other with other imagery. When this is cleverly folded together, it encases a mini LP sleeve that holds the disc. This LP sleeve also has graphics applied to it like a regular CD.
Over all, this method uses less materials and is lighter in weight and size compared to the standard Jewel CD case currently in use. Therefore when delivering in batches it would be lighter and you would be able to store more at the one time - saving time, money, resources & energy.
This package design is also completely reusable as the user can use the packaging as a poster aswell and it is entirely recyclable. Everything can be recycled & nothing will be wasted.
Overall this re-design of a consumer product minimises waste and the effect it is currently having on the environmental impact while enhancing the product itself making it more visually appealing and increasing desirability.
