Germany is a land of numerous mineral wells. Nowhere in the world can be found such a wealth of underground sources of natural mineral water as here. There are more than 200 mineral springs and over 500 different mineral and 40 medicinal waters. They vary by their regional origin and the different levels of minerals, trace elements and carbon dioxide. 

 

Consumption and production of mineral water in Germany have risen steadily in recent decades. The reference points are particularly noteworthy: About half of the mineral water produced is now sold in discount stores than in beverage market. These rely on a few nationwide uniform brands in ecologically adverse disposable PET bottles from a few centralized bottling plants.
