Animal Vision - Project one

There was a basic system followed in each of the concepts, keeping the idea of evolution and the concept of rods and cones always as a backend structure.
An exploration to understand the texture and contrast.
Set of illustrations I made based on the book 4000 Animal, Bird and Fish Motifs: A Sourcebook
by Graham Mc Callum. This was done to see how humans percieved different species over a period of time.
Compilation for the notion of binocular and monocular vision. This talks about the field of view different species have in the animal kingdom and how they put it to use.

I compiled the data put together in the form of information graphics for all the concepts.
Many song birds can see the ultraviolet spectrum. Simply put, million more colours beyond our imagination. Scientists believe that they even see patterns and colours on each others body that helps them in choosing their partners ! This is my take on this through illustrations done with fluroscent paint & shot in black light. I even made a GIF, representing the extrodinary array of hues that they may possible see.
The communal eye or the collective eye as paleontologists term it, is based on the evolution of the human eye. Humans over the course of time did not have major changes in their vision, They enhanced their stand amongst the other species through interacting and networking amongst their own kind
and eventually creating a society
Ommatidia is generally the single hexagonal unit of a compound eye . These type of eyes were the first to emerge on this planet. It still exists in abundance amongst many insects. As an interpretation,
I laser-etched a transparent acrylic sheet in multuple hexagonal units ( similiar to the compund eye )
and then took photographs through it.
Tapetum Lucidum stands for a bright carpet in latin. It is basically the phenomenon of the glowing of the eye in the dark that enables night vision for many carnivores. This enabled them to hunt after hours and attack their prey by surprise. I thought light painting would be an appropriate way to depict this.
A full compilation of the project will be up soon. Thanks for watching :)
