United States Currency Redesign
Concept and Making
These are three unique redesigns for our current $1, $5, and $10 bills. My goal here was to create a more practical, user-friendly, and inclusive design to replace our current outdated bills.
Inspiration and Concepting
My inspiration for this project mostly came from famous YouTuber and public figure, Molly Burke, she speaks out on her life experiences as a blind woman in a seeing society. When I first started redesigning the currency I immediately was reminded of a story she told about having her sister have to fold her bills a certain way so she could identify which bills she was using, this is what pushed my idea of inclusivity by including Braille and a more accessible color palette. I also decided to use the National animals and plants, such as the American Bison, American Rose, and the Oak tree, that represent the United States instead of the current more controversial and outdated figures on our bills.
Color Palette
When picking my color palette I once again wanted to stick with my pattern of inclusivity, I selected colors that were easily distinguishable for both colored-vision and color-blind individuals. By reassigning each bill its own distinct color it makes for quicker identification between the bills which makes it easier for quick use.
Typography
Once again sticking with the theme of accessibility I went with fonts that have been proven to be easier for those with reading disabilities such as dyslexia to read along with those with poor vision.
