As Project Manager / Interior Book Designer while at Zondervan working with Zonderkidz I had the pleasure to work with two talented women on this project; my Editor Jacque Alberta and Award Winning Author Nikki Grimes, (over the phone). Dark Sons (which was awarded the Coretta Scott King Author Honor Book) and then A Girl Named Mister, both landed on my desk simultaneously. Nikki wanted each voice to have their own font, style and a specific format for each poem. Each book tells a story of two people through poetry and was delightful break and custom interior book design project, where I was able to break from the basic template driven industry.
