The principle of entropy dictates that all processes naturally gravitates towards a state of inert euqilibrium. All energy in the universe is continually being broken down and redistributed. By this understanding, the notion of permenance, the continued and persistent presence of something, is an aboration acting against entropy. For something to overcome the weight of decay, energy must be continually added to the system to keep it moving forward in time.

The digital spheres we now live in have afforded us an advantage in the fight for permenance. Digital information does not succumb to the forces of entropy as easily as physical information does. That is not to say, however, that it is immune. As new file formats emerge and more powerful storage mediums are developed, digital data is copied and converted from one format or device to another. During these transfers, corrputions and errors can occur, called glitches, which become a part of the code as it is passd along.

Even as the code is changed or re-written, the glitch often remains unaltered. It stands as a lasting testament to the vulnerability and imperfections of our digital systems. For the digital universe, the aboration of the glitch is the means by which permemance is realized.
