Radio Lab: From Tree to Shining Tree
We all love Radiolab… but to be fair, who doesn’t? This is an excerpt from one of our all-time favorite episodes, titled “From Tree to Shining Tree”. Our mission here in this internal piece was to convey the real world and the interconnected magical world, and their relationship to each other. It wasn’t about showing trees or bees or any other specific organism, but rather seeing everything as one complete system. We wanted our animation to be smooth, slow, and graceful. After all, this is the beauty of nature that we are talking about.

Process
We listened closely to the excerpt and broke down the transcript line-by-line. This allowed us to figure out our metaphors before starting visual design.
Once we knew what our action was going to be, we worked on the look development and storyboards simultaneously. We then created a 2D animatic that helped guide the 3D animation and typographic layout.
