Book Jacket Project - I chose to do my book jacket from currently one of my favorite books, The Sentence. The Sentence is about a bookstore that is haunted by a customer that recently passed, but only ever makes her presence known to Tookie, the main character and bookstore employee. My process started by just thinking about the book and the elements that stood out to me visually from the book. There is the bright blue door of the bookstore that is symbolic but also a key part of the stories climax. Then there is the ghost who haunts the bookstore, the challenge was coming up with a ghost that the viewer would immediately understand is otherworldly, without giving the image of the ghost too many physical traits. There were many elements that I wanted to include as well but had to make the tough design decision to leave out. I stuck with the minimal line drawing to keep the attention on the blue door and elements and the scale intentionally to fill the whole template to make the book feel like the whole bookstore fit in your hands. I enjoyed putting this together and was pleased with how successful I was at blending the photo of the hand with the line work, they came together pretty seamlessly.
