POS1T1ON Kollektíva was founded by five friends as a result of a creative initiative at the beginning of 2010. Their objective is to perform complex designing tasks by making use of the diverse design skills of the team. Accordingly, POS1T1ON possesses state-of-the-art technical skills as well as a modern approach in all the applied creative fields (graphic design, branding, image design, package design, web design, furniture design and interior design). With the combination of all these skills, POS1T1ON is able to provide creative services, supplying small orders and complex design tasks alike.
USE UNUSED, one of the brand names in the newest fashion designer generation in Hungary, has achieved success both at national and international level since it was founded in 2005. The brand has been successfully present at international fashion contests, where it represents the eternal values of innovation, artistic thinking and visionary approach in the dynamic world of fashion that is born anew every half year. The most important objective of the brand is to create an affordable design of premium quality that can serve as the perfect casual accessory for modern women in an urban environment.
The 2011 Hungarian Design Week witnessed the birth of this year’s furniture collection of POS1T1ON Kollektíva. This project is the second furniture design of POS1T1ON where the concept was created and implemented with the contribution of the USE UNUSED team.

When completing a task such as this, contributing designers should have an opportunity to express their design philosophy, each giving the final design his or her very own unique touch. Our goal was to search for common traits in the otherwise very peculiar identities of POS1T1ON and USE UNUSED. This task proved to be an exciting addition to the regular the design process.
USE UNUSED has always been strongly inspired by the fashion trends of the 50s, 60s and 70s as well as by trade of ready-to-wear clothing. Similarly, POS1T1ON is fond of the strictly functional yet high quality minimalism of the era. We spent long weeks with brainstorming and analysing jointly made mood boards to eventually discover the creative direction equally loved by each participant.

Hungarian material culture, fashion and architecture in the 60s typically reinterpret and simplify leading international trends. However, they are characteristically Hungarian at the same time, due to the isolated nature of the political system. The odd relevance of the old brochure promoting architectural designs for holiday cottages could be clearly felt when we leafed through it. Our generation interprets these design solutions as well as the philosophy of the whole era from a completely different aspect. We were mostly inspired by their visuality and the way they handle massive objects as well as the graphic quality of the designs (with special regard to architectural designs) while positioning our work. Another special feature of the era, readily embraced by the designers, is the utopian feeling at the dawn of the space age and the related minimalist, often surreal design that has a strong influence on the manufactured pieces of furniture.
