EURO

EURO - LIVING SMALL
Interior design project for a minimal and simple living unit (38 m²) for two young people. Proposal for a minimal living unit, for young people migrating in the European Union.
So ... What could be done to encourage young people to leave family home?
1. design a cheap, simple and minimal unité d’habitation
2. take 38 m² as the minimal allowed living unit
3. make it adaptable, transformable and customizable
4. fill it with colours
Reasons for coming to Europe - all valid residence permits at the end of 2019 by reason
Migration to and from the EU - migration numbers in 2018 expressed in million of people
Young people leaving the parental household, 2019 - estimated average age in years
To give a bit of colour to the small apartment, it can be added a coloured wallpaper, whose decoration is designed as an abstract elaboration of the European map.
In fact, the wallpaper’s subject is a repetion of blunted rectangles which resemble the shape of the EU countries and each rectangle‘s colour reflects the colour of the country flag. The rectangles which form the abstract EU map are blunted in order to highlight the fact that the EU countries’ boundary are crossable without restrictions or customs taxes.
The wallpaper is crossed by orthogonal lines, which represent the meridians and parallels.
