Maquette in Oil Based Clay
Each of these three sculptures were created using DAS's Modelling clay
For the sculpture on the left, I played with the concept of repetition to create spirals that all connected to form a new piece. For the center of the sculpture, I utilized a thicker spiral than the other two spiral pieces, so as to bring about more emphasis and balance to the piece.
The sculpture in the center was a play on symmetry in art. While the piece is symmetrical in a vertical sense, I purposely made the piece almost seem off balance by using a very light top section, very thick middle section, and then a medium sized section for the bottom section.
The piece on the right was created with a sense of balance, yet not a sense of symmetry.
Albeit creating these sculptures was a lot of fun, I wish that I would have used a different form of oil based clay. My hands heated up the pieces and made it very hard to get the results that I anticipated.
Shown above are different views of the three sculptures.
