Little Red Riding Hood Cards

This project was to illustrate the classic story on ten cards, without text. These cards are used by a professional storyteller to tell the story to toddlers.

Therefore, the illustrations needed to be very expressive and attractive, full of color, details and a dash of humor. 100% my kind of work.

We thought the room scenes were a bit empty and, sometimes, too tense for little kids.

Then I suggested the cats painted on the plates to insert some reactions and silliness.
This is a soft version: the Bad Wolf locks the Grandma in the wardrobe and, at the end, he ends up being the family's pet. No kills, no blood.
In the first sketches, I tried a contemporary mother and the Big Bad Wolf with an unusual design.

But, in the following meetings, we decided to make the illustrations more classic, since it would probably be the first time that some of the children would see these characters.
The Big Bad Wolf required some extra work.

The first version had a very unusual design. I made a new one, but the publisher needed that the character conveyed a little more danger and threat. Then I worked on the third design and it was a hit.

Here below you can check the three versions:
